There’s no denying, The Whitsundays is one of Australia’s most incredible travel destinations. A paradise where you’ll find pearly white beaches, lively resorts, stunning golf courses and the Great Barrier Reef, and of course – Whitsunday Green.
We might be biased because it’s our neighbourhood, but be prepared to be blown away by the breathtaking ocean views and a myriad of activities like sailing, snorkelling, tracking, golfing, diving and more. Whether you’re a leisure seeker who’s looking for a sunkissed beach holiday or an adventure junkie who loves the sea, there’s something for everyone at Whitsundays (families included!).
Whether you’re a family looking for child-friendly activities, or checking out the best place to retire, there are plenty of things to do in Whitsunday Islands, and we’ve put together the perfect itinerary, starting with teeing off at Whitsunday Green.

Whitsunday Green – 10mins from Airlie Beach – is the gateway to the Whitsundays
It’s tee time:
You’ll find us tucked on the urban edge of Airlie Beach – surrounded by the mountains and sea, boasting 100 hectares of stunning land, perfect for a golfing getaway.
You’ll find a delightful Par 3 course designed by professional golf course architect Graham Papworth. Our 9 hole (18 tee) course is designed to be rewarding for both seasoned players and new beginners. With each game usually lasting no more than 2 hours, our course allows experienced golfers to work on their techniques while keeping golfers of all ages (especially kids) entertained, making it the perfect getaway.
Forgotten something? Club hire is also available for both left and right-handed players and we’ve even got a Pro Shop where you’ll find quality tees, balls and gloves for sale. Just be sure to bring your cap and a pair of covered shoes, and you’re all set.
If you’re looking for relaxing things to do in Whitsundays, you’ll find a perfect escape at Whitsunday Green.
Next up: Explore The Great Barrier Reef
Home to over 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands and bays, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. As a world heritage-listed marine park, these protected waters boast a large biodiversity of marine life — including whales, dolphins, turtles, rays and colourful tropical fish. You can explore the spectacular reef by boat or choose to snorkel and dive deep alongside magnificent creatures of the ocean, whatever it is – you won’t regret it.
Another option is to hop aboard a day cruise to get up close and personal with spectacular coral reefs and marine life. There are plenty of local tour providers that offer snorkelling and diving adventures around the outer reef locations – you can deep dive with professional instructors and go on guided tours led by marine biologists for a truly immersive and educational experience, perfect for all ages too.
If you’re looking to explore the reef without getting wet or you have little ones in tow consider visiting Reefworld — an innovative multilevel reef facility. Get up close and personal with the reef by taking a semi-submersible ride that’s accompanied by informative commentary by marine experts. Or visit the underwater observatory for photo opportunities with turtles, manta rays and colour-popping tropical fishes like the parrotfish and red emperor – the best kind of souvenir!
Last but not least: experience a Bird’s Eye View Of The Islands
After setting sail on the high seas, we recommend taking to the skies. For a completely different bird’s eye view of the islands, charter a small private plane at Whitsunday Airport. Most sightseeing flight tours include complimentary in-flight pilot commentary where you can learn about your surroundings, an extra special touch we think!
Fly Australia also offers every passenger a first-class window seat by keeping the number of guests to 5 per flight. During your 70 minutes journey, you’ll fly over the Whitsunday Islands, Whitehaven Beach, the Outer Great Barrier Reef and the world-famous Heart Reef (yes, it’s in the shape of a heart)! If you prefer travelling in style, consider hopping on board the GSL Aviation Helicopter tour, which covers dazzling views of Whitehaven Beach and the Iconic Hill Inlet. Cruise low over the reefs or glide high over the white sandy beaches for scenic views that’ll take your breath away.
With an unparalleled array of marine life, spectacular reefs and scenic views, The Whitsundays makes for one of Australia’s top travel destinations. From sailing the high seas to flying high over islands and teeing off in a scenic retreat, there are so many amazing things to do in Whitsundays and at Whitsunday Green. So plan your itinerary, pack your bags and get the kids ready for an unforgettable time in this little pocket of absolute paradise.
